TECH TIME TRAVEL

Hello, Android

September 23, 2008 - Over a decade ago, the HTC Dream (aka T-Mobile G1) was introduced, thus launching the Linux-based Android operating system. Though definitely dated now, the "Google Phone" wasn't the "flashiest" handset out there - all plastic and fitted with Gorilla Glass. The phone had a hard time competing design-wise with the iPhone 3G, Nokia N96, or Blackberry Bold 9000, but it did make for a brand new OS experience and carried a unique form factor with its "chin". The HTC Dream had a touchscreen and a full QWERTY keyboard, for those who weren't quite ready to jump into the touchscreen future. It also included 5 buttons and a trackball. And in what might not be so weird today (but still much-loved by many), HTC decided to leave out the 3.5mm headphone jack back in 2008. The launch of the Android OS showed significant promise and its source code has since evolved to run on a range of other electronics, such as game consoles, portable media players, digital cameras, PCs, and more! We can't wait to see what awaits the future with Android.Read More: Remembering the first Android phone, What is Android
