Conception of the World Wide Web

31 years ago today, computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee and colleague Robert Caillau coined the term "World Wide Web." The concept of a networked hypertext system that made it easier to access data from any computer was Berners-Lee's idea that was presented in March of 1989 but returned later to be coined as the "World Wide Web." Berners-Lee worked for the European Organization for Nuclear Research and created the proposal "Information Management: A Proposal" not to change the world but to solve one problem at his company.
