Have you ever wondered why the Edison lightbulb has been around for over 130 years despite the fact that the lightbulb itself has gone through improvements? The reason: the Edison socket is cheap to make, practically universal, and works with nearly every lightbulb. It's rare that an innovator gets it right on the first try. Even Steve Jobs and Apple needed several tries and a decade to get the iMac right. While we all wish that we could be Thomas Edison, it's more likely that we're Steve Jobs.
