Cray-1 Supercomputer Shipped to New Mexico   

March 4, 1976 - The first Cray-1 supercomputer shipped to Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Los Alamos outbid Lawerence Livermore National Laboratory in California for the Cray-1, receiving the serial number 001. The Cray-1 was used to design sophisticated weapons systems for the United States, and for almost 10 years was the world's fastest supercomputer.  Read more about Seymour Cray and the Cray-1 Supercomputer.
