First U.S. Space Walk

June 3, 1965 - U.S. Astronaut Edward White completed the first American spacewalk as part of the Gemini IV mission. His walk lasted 23 minutes, and when it was time to re-board the spacecraft, White reportedly told the crew “I’m not coming in…This is fun.” Originally, White was just supposed to stand up in his seat for his spacewalk, but after the Soviet Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov completed the first spacewalk on March 18, 1965, the plan changed.
