Beginning of the Apollo 11 Mission

July 16, 1969 - The fifth crewed mission of NASA's Apollo mission and famously the first to reach the Moon launches from Cape Canaveral in Florida. An estimated one million spectators watched the launch live on highways and beaches around the base, and the launch was televised in over 30 countries.
