First Outer Solar System Mission Successful

January 14, 2005 - The European Space Agency's Huygens probe lands on Titan, one of Saturn's moons. This is still the farthest a spacecraft from Earth has landed and the only one to land on Titan. The Huygens gathered data about Titan's atmosphere for several hours before touching down on land where it continued to collect and send data back to Earth for 90 minutes. The probe launched on October 15, 1997, and traveled eight years before entering Titan's atmosphere. Read more about Huygens's mission to Titan.
