Steamboat Patented
February 11, 1809 - Robert Fulton patents the first commercially successful steamboat. Fulton was an American inventor who spent seven years designing the steamboat before submitting the patent. His first successful boat, the Claremont, sailed up the Hudson River in 1807, after his first prototype broke apart on the water in 1803. The steamboat wasn't Fulton's only invention.
