December 3, 1968 - Control Data Corporation announces the 7600 Supercomputer, successor to the 6600 and considered by experts as the first supercomputer. Both the 6600 and the 7600 were designed by Seymour Cray. The CDC 7600 ran at a speed of nearly 40 megaflops and was considered the fastest computer in the world from 1969 to 1975. Read more about the history of the 7600 Supercomputer.
