First Traffic Light Installed

August 5, 1914 - An intersection in Clevland, Ohio, is honored with the first electric traffic light in the United States. The device, similar to those in London and Utah, is the first that allows traffic officers to sit in a booth and operate the light rather than standing in the middle of the intersection. Such a simple traffic light changed how cars, horse-drawn carriages, and pedestrians coexisted on the roads and reduced the chaos found on American highways before the introduction of traffic control devices.Why do we need traffic signals?
