August 17, 1982 - 39 years ago to this week, Sony and Philips co-developed and manufactured the first compact disc (CD). When the audio CD was introduced in 1982, it could easily store much more data than a PC's hard drive - today, not so much! On October 1st, Billy Joel's 52nd Street album was one of fifty CDs released that day; this album is often credited with the first album to be released on CD.
