The Virus that Melted PCs
April 26th, 1999 - The CIH virus, also known as the Chernobyl virus, caused significant damage to computers around the world. Unlike other viruses at the time, the CIH virus was designed to attack the BIOS of a computer, rendering it unable to boot up and causing irreparable damage. This made the virus one of the most damaging computer viruses ever created, resulting in significant financial losses for individuals and businesses. The virus was programmed to activate on April 26th, which was the anniversary of the infamous Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
