John Herschel takes First Photographic Negative
September 9, 1839 - English polymath, astronomer, and botanist Sir John Herschel creates a photographic negative on a glass plate with silver chloride. He was the first to create photographic "positives" and "negatives" and took the photograph of his father's telescope stand the same year Louis Daguerre invented the daguerreotype. Herschel's technique for capturing images was so effective that astronomers used it until the 1990s.
