Steve Jobs resigns from Apple...and named Interim CEO
September 16, 1985 AND 1997 - Apple co-founder Steve Jobs resigns after a boardroom battle with John Sculley. Jobs goes on to found NeXT, a computer company specializing in workstations for business and higher education. After producing three models of the NeXT Computer, sales were moderate, but the tech was innovative. Apple acquired NeXT in February of 1997 and in September gave Jobs the role of Interim CEO which he held until 2000 when "interim" was dropped. Steve Jobs remained CEO of Apple until his death in 2011.
