Ethernet network runs for the first time
November 11, 1973 - Robert Metcalf sets up the first ethernet network in the Xerox offices connecting some computers to the first laser printer. Metcalf and two other engineers had been tasked with creating a local-area network for Xerox's Palo Alto Center and had no intention of revolutionizing the way computers on the same network talked to one another. The first commercial ethernet was in use by 1980.
