Scottish-American Inventor Alexander Graham Bell Born

March 3, 1847 - Alexander Graham Bell is born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Bell, best known for inventing the telephone and refining the phonograph, was also a scientist and teacher of the deaf. Bell's work on the harmonic telegraph inspired his work on the telephone. He received the patent for the telephone on March 7, 1876, and demonstrated the first long distance telephone call from Brantford to Paris, Ontario over a telegraph wire in August of the same year.
