February 3, 1995 - Astronaut Eileen Collins becomes the first woman to pilot the Space Shuttle during mission STS-63. The mission was the second in the Shuttle-Mir Program during which U.S. space shuttles docked with the Russian Space Station Mir. A former colonel in the U.S. Air Force, this mission was Collins's first space flight. Collins would become the first woman to command a Shuttle Shuttle mission for STS-93 in October 1998.Read the highlights from STS-63.
