Deep Blue beats a World Chess Champion
February 10, 1996 - The computer Deep Blue beats world chess champion Garry Kasparov in a standard championship chess match. This match was the first time a computer had beaten a world chess champion using standard time controls. Kasparov would go on to win the match, beating Deep Blue by 4-2. The two played a rematch in 1997 following a hardware upgrade for Deep Blue. Kasparov lost to Deep Blue in the deciding game.Read how IBM built the computer to face a reigning world chess champion.
