QuickTime is released

December 2, 1991 - Apple releases QuickTime 1.0. The video player was the first that allowed color video on computers and ignited a patent infringement war between Apple and Microsoft, ultimately leading to the 1997 truce between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. QuickTime's .MOV container allowed for multiple file types to be combined in an editable file.
