First Demonstration of an Integrated Circut.
September 12, 1958 - Jack Kirby, a Texas Instruments Engineer, demonstrates his prototype for a hybrid integrated circuit. Kirby's prototype was made of germanium and used external wire connections making it difficult to mass produce. The first customer for the integrated circuit was the U.S. Air Force in 1961. Nearly 40 years later in 2000, Jack Kirby was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for his work on the development of the integrated circuit.
