Transistor Patented
October 3, 1950 – AT&T Bell Laboratories researchers John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley
patent the transistor, two years after their initial demonstration. Originally designed to be a successor to the vacuum tube, the transistor laid the groundwork for the development of integrated circuits and microchips. Over 70 years later, all modern technology relies on the foundation of the transistor's existence. Bardeen, Brattain, and Shockley were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1956 for their work.
