First Wireless Transatlantic Telegraph Service Begins
October 17th, 1907 - Italian inventor and electrical engineer Guglielmo Marconi officially opened his first commercial transatlantic wireless telegraph service. The service traveled more than 2,000 miles from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to Clifden, Ireland. Over 10,000 words were transmitted between the two stations on the first day of operation.
