Martin Cooper Makes the First Cell Phone Call
April 3, 1973 - The first cell phone call was made by Martin Cooper, a senior engineer at Motorola. Using a prototype of the Motorola DynaTAC, the first handheld cellular phone, Cooper dialed up his rival Joel Engel, who was working on cellular technology at Bell Labs. This historic call lasted around 20 minutes and forever changed the course of communication technology. Cooper's call paved the way for the mobile phone revolution that has transformed the way we communicate and live today.Read more about this historic moment.
