The Michelangelo Virus

March 6, 1992 - Michelangelo, one of the earliest viruses to received widespread media attention, strikes on the birthday of artist Michelangelo, though there is no reference to the artist in the virus. The Virus was designed to infect DOS systems, but did not engage the operating system or make any OS calls. In 1992 several companies shipped machines infected with the virus somewhere between 10,00 and 20,00 cases of data loss were reported on March 6th 1992, resulting in many PC owners unable to run their computer on March 6 in subsequent years. By 1997 no cases of the Michelangelo virus were being reported in the wild. The Virus author is still unknown.Read more about the Michelangelo virus.
