Good Morning. The date is January 30th, and 44 years ago, the Beatles took the roof of the Apple office on Savile Row, their last appearance as a group. Apple is again in the news as they have seemingly avoided the mass layoffs other big tech companies like Microsoft and IBM have sustained. As the list of tech company layoffs continues to grow, the news of ransomware group Hive's takedown is a welcome relief to cybersecurity teams everywhere. First Version of Java Released
January 30, 1982 - Elk Cloner, is released in the wild. Considered the first microcomputer virus, Elk Cloner was written by Richard Skrenta, a 15-year-old high school student. The code was 400 lines long, attached itself to the Apple II operating system, and spread via floppy disk. On the 50th use, the Elk Cloner virus was activated, and it infected the PC displaying a short poem pictured above.Read more about the Elk Cloner.
