Apollo 17 Returns

December 19, 1972 - Apollo 17 returned from a 13-day mission, which would be the last of the Apollo program. It was also the last time humans set foot on the Moon. The crew, Commander Gene Cernan, and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt walked on the Moon three times, drove the Lunar Roving Vehicle, and stayed on the lunar surface for three days. All this occurred while Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans orbited above. The mission successfully brought back the largest amount of lunar samples and set records for the longest lunar orbit and time spent on the Moon's surfaceThe US and NASA stopped lunar missions because it was "Astronomically" expensive to get to the Moon.
